Description | Kings Beach Reef is located approximately 100m offshore, close to a boat ramp and regular boat traffic, and near to Caloundra’s popular beach front area. Site 1 is situated at a depth of 3 meters. This site was added to the Reef Check Australia reef health survey list in 2009, to gain a better understanding of reefs off the southern Sunshine Coast. In 2011, this location was exposed to a flood plume resulting from the major South East Queensland (SEQ) flooding event. Data collected shortly after this event showed a dramatically reduced hard coral population (14% to 2%). Annual monitoring efforts have shown signs of recovery of the site over time, however continued monitoring is required to document potential changes in the future. |
